My school was… well, a school. Grey, echoey, and boxy, like someone forgot that kids are actually humans who need light and laughter and maybe a place to sit that's not a cold concrete step. It was more "how can we stop you from doing anything fun" than "how can we help you learn."

But I've got kids now, and their school? It's downright welcoming. Open spaces, bright colors, stuff you'd actually want to touch (and not because it's covered in gum). It's the kind of place that feels like it was designed for actual people, not just endless rules.

This list of 29 clever school designs from around the world is proof that classrooms don't have to feel like punishment.
